reprieve and chili nachos
Last night dan and I went out in the middle of the week without our kids. It seems like a lot longer than it probably has been since we did that but it was a welcome break. Here's how it went down...we bribed Kendall and Trevor to watch Max and Tess and then we met up w/ friends at hard times. We were gone for almost 2 hours too and only had 1 phone call. Of course when we came home they were still here, but it was fun while it lasted, right?

Lovelovelove
October is the best month for me. It's been so brisk out and we've had tons going on. Tess turned 3 in Sept. Kendall turned 13 last weekend. We have been inundated with party after party and lots of fun. In the next 2 weeks I have 3 pampered chef parties, a jewelry party and supper club. We also have gayle and wil's halloween party on Oct. 25. (hint hint tlee, find a sitter and come play).
I'm not sure if it's really too early to be Christmas shopping but I've started having those urges already. It's good that most of my friends are girls since uhhhh, pampered chef will most likely provide Christams. The big kids want cash this year. I'm feeling all oogy about that but my mom said that it'll make life easier on me and that they can get the after-christmas sales. I'm still tossing it around in my head though. I guess it's a good thing that Tess and Max are around to keep the magic of things alive since my other kids are money grubbing ingrates. ha.

Stace Lace from Outter Space
On Tuesday my buddy Stacy will be here from Puerto Rico. I'm beyond tickled about seeing her and her babies. Back when she was my neighbor we were huge fans of hanging out and drinking on the porch, listening to kid rock or waylon. Stacy has already said that this is all she wants to do and we believe I can make that happen. Kendall's excited because Alexis will be here. They're staying for at least a month so chances are any of you who see me will get to hang out w/ them as well.
Then on June 10 grammy and grandpa o'brien will be here w/ Dan's seestor Amber and her babies. They'll be here for Max's christening on June 15. I'm so glad that Dan's dad will finally get to meet Max. I think they're going to be fast friends. I'm mostly excited about getting to meet Amber and having our kids play together and fight over the grand parents haha.
On the down side of it all, we're still waiting for my raise, still waiting for our tax incentive check and still very broke. Hopefully we'll make up for our lack of funds by at least being a lot of fun for our guests. Sorry friends and family, we can't do much more than that this month.
Ok Tess is in the tub crying like a fool because there are bubbles in her water. Time for me to go drown her.

apple bottom jeans and boots with the fuuuuurrr
Happy President's Day!
I'm back at work after a beeeautiful weekend. Friday the kidlets were out of school and Dan worked from home so I spent the 4 days before that preparing myself for the house wreckage. It turned out not-so-bad. Once I threatened to stay away til the dishes were done and bottles were made, everything was taken care of. I took a huge step forward and started studying for my mcsa test again so maybe sometime this year I'll complete ONE of the FOUR tests required to get certified. Ugh. It's just so hard to focus.
Saturday Dan had to work from home during the day but we had the night to ourselves that night. Mom and dad took the 4 youngest kids and Jake, well, who cares. So we took the babies to the woods at around 3 and then became insanely giddy when faced with being able to do ANYTHING WE WANT for the next 15 or 16 hours. It was the coolest. We had a huge sushi lunch/dinner at Otani and the chef gave us free stuff that I liked even better than the sushi. Then we went to the mall and walked around for a bit and then we went to see Juno. Juno was such a sweet movie. Then we came home and slept through the entire night without once waking up to feed Max.
Oh did I forget to mention, like, 100 times that we got Rock Band? We did. I got it for Dan for our anniversary (that's my justification for spending the cash since our anniversary isn't for a month). We also got SceneIt? which was sorta for me but sorta for Dan too since we both love it. So once we got the kids from church and came home we spent the entire day playing games and eating and drinking Coronas. The kids didn't have corona and I didn't eat. But you get the picture. It was such a fun day. The only one who did not enjoy Rock Band was Tess. Her normal dose of attention got taken up by a stupid game and she did not like that one bit. TOO BAD SUCKA. (but mommy still loves you very much)
Ok so, for this girls night out thing we need 10 more girls in order to have the limo-bus filled. So if anyone reads this and knows 10 chicks who want to have fun, please contact me or Angel or Terri or really, anyone. The cost is $45 and it's a guaranteed great time.

I had a dream
Last night i got to sleep long enough to have many dreams! Mom watched Tess and baby Max for the whole night so I slept for 8 hours STRAIGHT. Not even a bathroom break. It was heavenly and a good reminder that sleep time is not to be taken for granted.
We had a wonderful weekend. Saturday was pampered chef/rock band. There were lots of people here and as far as I know everyone had a good time. I got to see Jessica before-hand on her way to Manda's shower too. She gave Max 3 adorable outfits which were desparately needed because while he has tons of 3-6 month clothes, he's still short and squatty and can only wear newborn stuff. He's growing though. Thanks Jessica! If anyone still wants to place an order for pampered chef stuff, just go to amy's site by Friday. That's when we're closing up shop for this party.
Yesterday I was a bit hungover and spent a lot of time just being lazy and watching Big Love with Dan. We're down to 3 episodes and then we'll have to find a new addiction. Last night we dropped off the babies and then went up north to Sarah and Josh's house for supper club. It was the perfect size crowd and we ate sooooooo much good food. After dieting hard core for 2 solid weeks it was good to splurge a bit. I'm down 4.8 lbs now from the starting point 2 weeks ago. I'm so impatient with weight loss. I want to lose it all at once even though I didn't gain it that way. I'm sure exercising will give me a bit of a push.
Tess just told me that it's time to go potty so I'm out!

I was going to complain about how I hate Halloween more than any other holiday but that's not true. I hate New Years Day more. I also feel negatively towards other days such as Valentines day and Mothers day so I guess I'll just say that Halloween is the biggest pain in the ass holiday for me. We have to start like, a month in advance getting ready for it and in the end what do you get? Candy. I can get candy at the store. Hell, I can buy enough candy for my kids and the neighbors and me for a month and it'd be better than Halloween. Did I mention I hate the stupid tooth fairy too?
I do. (but Tess looks SO STINKING CUTE in her kangaroo costume).
Tonight we have my folks coming over and Gayle and Wil and their kids and some of Trevor's friends too. We'll eat pizza and beg for candy and Dan's going to project a movie onto the roof like he did last year. I like that part. I just don't like the planning, costume-figuring-out and the month's worth of candy wrappers allover the floor. I also don't like that this year I have to do sober trick or treating. Mom and I have a tradition of taking along our beer. Beer makes everything more fun.
***
Ok, I have to go find Nightmare Before Christmas before Dan and Kendall tear the house apart.
Have a safe and happy Halloween, everyone.

Because Peggy said so, that's why.
Favorite Gourmet Item: the only thing I'm even remotely picky about is beer. I don't know if that's gourmet?
Favorite Snack at Home: candy corn or peeps
Favorite Fast Food item: chik fil-a /channeling a certain cow
Favorite Food when Driving: circus peanuts...those orange spongey sugar candies. They disappear when I'm driving...I blame evaporation.
Favorite Food with a Beer (or other libation - please specify): if you have beer, who needs food?
Favorite Food for Invoking Romantic Intentions: hmm I'd say melting pot because it's so romantic...however, everytime we go there we eat so much that we're too full for romantic anything...but the intention is still there.
Least Favorite Food: mayonaise

Why blog?
I can't find the remote. Last night I fell asleep watching the tivo'd episode of Damages. I'd love to see what I missed but it's over there...on Dan's side of the room...in the middle of his stuff. I can't find it without moving. So I'll blog.
llllllllllllllllll
Tess dug her tiny little fingernals into my "L" key on my keyboard so it no Longer works without being squished down really hard. From this point out, my entry will be sans "L"'s
Good uck with that!
Today we're going to Cindy's baby Aex's birthday party. He's 1! Happy birthday kiddo. Speaking of birthdays...we just have a few more days ti grampa o'brien's birthday too. In keeping with O'Brien tradition, the gift wi arrive ate. I'm not good at tardiness but my hubby is and I can't seem to do everyhing so the gift wil arrive once it gets there :)
(hey I got an L in up there! maybe this probem is fixing itsef)
Work has been hard for the past few weeks. We have new puters and teachers coming back and tons of stuff to move and it's kiing me. Especiay with the heat.
The kids are good, Dan's crotchety ike an od man. I'm not ok with this L issue....so I'm out.

Take me to the rivvaaahh
Yesterday was my Friday/Saturday. Tree, Liz, Amy and Terri came over and we went to the pool. It was so fun to have girl time and relaxation. We had kick ass lunch provided by Tree. Trevor even took Tess home for a nap when she got tired so I got to be in a pool without a baby clinging to me. Very nice. I wish every day could be hang-out-at-the-pool-with-friends day. I'm not asking for much. Maybe we need our own pool?
Today Dan, Tessie and I are going to the river. Mom and Dad already have the other kids down there so we're just gonna pack our stuff and go. We're debating about taking the d-o-g and staying the night. There are pluses and minuses but it's looking like we'll do it. I miss spending weekends down there like we used to do. I just hope leeroy behaves and dan can sleep. The worst part of it is packing everything we own for 24 hours of fun. I guess I should go do that now.
Happy weekend everyone.

ooh and ahh
Tess and I are sitting here on my bed. I have dye on my hair and she's watching Ooh and Aah on Disney. We're just about as active now as we have been for this entire long weekend.
Saturday the pool opened and I haven't seen my daughter since. Kendall is on the verge of growing gills and fins. She and Trevor have spent most of the weekend swimming. Kendall's face is dotted with freckles and Trevor's shoulders are redder than they should be if he were re-applying his sunscreen as he should. Jake's been working most of the weekend so he's only gotten to go once so far. Saturday night Dan and I saddled the 3 eldest kid with babysitting duties and went to Aaron's to hang out with the mean mommies. It's rare that we're all in attendance anymore. We even had Tyler there, but no Amy....waaah. Amy, we've voted and you may no longer leave town....ever. k. thx.
Sunday Terri came over and watched movies and ate food with me. I'm not much of an outside girl. I would love to have a tan if I could just get one from the couch. I've craved the river all weekend but I couldn't be there and still run Jake to and from work. We'll have all summer for that. Last night we took Tess and went to the pool for a few. She kept saying "IM SWIMMING" over and over and over and over. She did go swimming too. The pool was freezing so Dan had to be the one in there with her. I can tell already that Tess is going to be a fish like Kendall. She threw a HUGE fit when we had to leave and cried "IM SWIMMMMMINNNNGGG" all the way home. We tried to pacify her with a bath but I think it was a weak attempt.
Today...uh, same ol' shit. Terri's coming over w/ Kayla for a little bit and we're going to watch Alpha Dog and eat some more. There's only one big thing on my agenda at this point...getting this dye out of my hair...I'm off to do that now.
ciao.

statues crumble for me
Last night was supper club with a cinco de mayo theme over at Gayle and Wil's house. As usual, there was WAY too much food to eat everything. That doesn't mean we didn't all try though. After dinner we were supposed to wack a pinata. I'd never gotten to hit one before so I didn't realize just how fragile those little boogers are. I decapitated that donkey in one fell swoop. It ended up being a tug of war pinata and we all got goodies regardless of my brutality. It was a good time. Fredtalkers are the best cooks ever.
Today I've managed to get our mothers day shopping done as well as Dad's birthday. He's turning 60 tomorrow so we're having a big shindig for him next weekend complete w/ a keg and tons of pork bbq. It's gonna be way fun. We also got Jake a plane ticket to Florida. Last year Kendall got to go to Puerto Rico to visit a friend and this year Jake's the lucky one. He's going to spend the week going to Disney Quest and Blizzard Beach with his friend Caylor and Caylor's dad. He's going to have a great summer with our vacation, Fredcamp and now this trip.
Just in case anyone is wanting a follow-up on Leeroy's doggie bootcamp...he's a failure. We've all worked with him and he's still the same little raggedy pup who jumps on people, chews up things and knocks down the baby. We've got our hopes up that once he's neutered he'll calm down.

luck sure eeee
The weather's been groovy this weekend and I'm making the most of it by staying inside and looking out.
Last night gayle had her pampered chef party and I got lots of goodies. I even won a cookbook. Now if someone would just use it and cook something. I'm trying to help Amy raise money for breast cancer awareness so if anyone wants to buy some pink cooking stuff, go to her site here: http://www.pamperedchef.biz/chefamyskitchen and get stuff. If you don't want to do that, just talk to me and I'll sign you up on my sign up form thingy and there won't be any shipping or tax for the pink items.
Today Terri and I are going to get our toenails did. We've been talking about it since last summer when I was unemployed and now it looks like we'll finally pamper ourselves and then maybe eat some raw fish afterwards. I wonder what the poor people will be doing.

like people do.
I'm never much good in crowds or at parties. I feel like I can't quite keep up and then the next day I usually wake up wondering if I've offended anyone (usually I have) or if I had fun or not. Once I decide if I had fun or not, then I start to recall the events that made me decide one way or another.
This morning I woke up with a really dry mouth and a slight headache. That generally means I had a good time. Dan didn't seem mad at me so that means I might not have been an asshole to him. *phew*. I remembered that Tree slept over, which most likely meant that she'd already stealthily slipped out, like in the olden days. (she had).
From last night my main memories will be these...
Arriving at Terri's house and realizing that 26 women is A LOT of women. Her house runneth over.
Going back to the tavern to look for becky's wallet, only to find it was on the limo the whole time.
Mads singing the cranberries zombie song which was definitely a highlight of the night for me. Maddy, you're awesome.
Finding Susan and Angel out in the lobby of the ramada...uh, contemplating taking a swim.
(hahaha...were they serious? I donno...we may never know).
Having deanna tell me she loves me...at least 50 times. I love you too dea!
Jackie and Jennifer drinking "southern bitches" while Tree, susan and angel had "wet pussies". "you might be in a redneck bar if...." ha.
Ellen announcing "WE'RE HERE!" as we walked into the restaurant in front of the blarney stone....woops, this isn't the bar. SEE YA FOLKS! WE MUST GO NOW.
All of the girls singing and dancing on the limo...that was so fun. Angel brought all of the best booty shaking songs. I think we all enjoyed this part.
Brocks...where becks lost her wallet AGAIN.
Hanging out on the limo bus while some folks had martinis at the bonefish. We had a good amount of beer onboard....so why not? Besides, gayle does that upside down pole dancing thing...the entertainment never ends hehehe.
Coming home safely. Thanks gayle. Telling Dan about the night.
I think the chaos that naturally comes with such a large group takes its toll on me, but overall, the night was a smashing success. It was a good night.

downtown charlie brown
Tonight is girls night out. We've been planning it for over a month. There are somewhere between 25-28 ladies going. We've rented a huge long limo bus thing w/ neon lights and we're gonna go downtown to a few bars and stuff. It really doesn't matter where we're going cuz we're going to be together having fun. It seems as though most of us going are pretty ok w/ going to taverns and pubs rather than dance clubs. Nobody's out to make a hook-up so we're gonna enjoy being girls...fantastic. Pics are sure to follow.
This week at work I felt like I was in my element. I've stopped being afraid to jump in and fix things. I ask questions when I need to and I don't go home everyday wondering if I'm doing what's expected. I hate the beginning of a new job, but now it seems like I'm doing what they hired me for and I've even been volunteering to pitch in to help a coworker who has more work to do. It's a good feeling.
I also started my pottery classes this week. I can't say that this is going to be a hobby that I'll keep. I enjoyed being there with my friends, but the part where you get dirty...is very dirty. The part where my fingernails dig into the clay...very frustrating. the part where you have to clean up what looks like a construction site when you're done...not so fun. I'm sure I'll like it more once i get a feel for the clay and my pots look less, well, crooked. Right now though...I'm not down with throwing pots. I'll keep at it though, I ain't no quitter.
Tessie gets right in my face sometimes and says HEY BABY!! I love her so much that it makes my head spin.

Pampered chef kegger? but of course.
Last night was a hoot. We ate really good food and drank beer from a mini-keg that was entirely too mini. In the future I'll get more than one. It was a very long and tiring week. Sadness and stress have been looming over my every thought. Last night, though, we had girl-talk and crying babies and wine and laughter and friendship. I woke up thinking about what kickass friends I have. We're also pretty funny. At least you couldn't have convinced us otherwise last night.
I woke up to a snow storm...fantastic.
Here are some recipes for the food we ate last night.
Hot Artichoke Dip
2 jars (6 ozs each) marinated artichoke hearts
1 pkg (10 ozs) frozen chopped spinach, thawed and drained
1 garlic clove, pressed
½ cup sour cream
½ cup mayonnaise
¾ cup freshly grated Parmesan cheese
Preheat oven to 374 degrees. Drain and coarsely chop artichoke hearts with Food Chopper. Mix artichoke hearts with remaining ingredients in Batter Bowl. Spoon into Mini- Baker. Bake 20-25 minutes or until heated through. Serve with bread baked in the Valtrompia Bread Tube or, for a healthier choice, fresh vegetables.
Yield: 10-15 appetizer servings
Approximately - 114 calories and 8 grams of fat per serving.
Tomato Basil Squares
1 pkg (10 ozs) refrigerated pizza dough/crust or homemade
2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese, divided
1 ounce (1/4 cup) fresh Parmesan cheese, grated
2 tbsps fresh basil leaves, snipped
2/3 cup mayonnaise
1 garlic clove, pressed
5 plum tomatoes, thinly sliced
Preheat oven to 375 degrees. Roll pizza dough onto 12 x 15 Rectangle Baking Stone to within 1 inch of edges using lightly floured Dough and Pizza Roller. Sprinkle crust with 1 cup mozzarella cheese.
Grate Parmesan cheese using Deluxe Cheese Grater. Snip basil with Kitchen Cutters or chop with Food Chopper. In 1-qt Batter Bowl, combine mayonnaise, Parmesan cheese, basil and remaining 1 cup mozzarella cheese. Press garlic over cheese mixture using Garlic Press; mix well using Super Scraper. Thinly slice tomatoes using the Ultimate Grate and Slice; arrange in single layer over top of mozzarella cheese. Top tomatoes with cheese mixture using medium Stainless Steel Scoop; spread evenly. Bake 15-20 minutes or until top is golden and bubbly. Serve warm. Cut with Pizza Cutter; serve with Mini Serving Spatula.
Yield: 20 servings
Approximately - 130 calories and 9 grams of fat per serving
Also, just in case anyone wants to order and couldn't make it last night, here is Amy's site
http://www.pamperedchef.biz/chefamyskitchen
Please be sure to enter Krystal O'Brien into the host's name so I'll get credit for your purchase.
I have to jet now, my tomato basil squares just beeped. Thanks to everyone who came last night!

movin and groovin
Today I'm going over to help Gayle and Wil move. They've gotta stay put this time though cuz moving sucks. Their new house is really cute so I imagine this'll be the last move for a while. I was thinking that now that dan and I both have cool new jobs we could start considering a newer bigger house with a back yard that's not a jungle, but then I remember the hassle of moving and packing and then I remember why I stay put.
Once we're done moving stuff and I take Jake to the movies, we're going to Terri's house for a Saw III partay. I'm stoked cuz Jake's gotta watch Tessie for us. I just hope x 3 that Dan gets some sleep while we're gone today so he can enjoy tonight. His work shift on weekends sucks arse.

Merry Chrimmus
Two days past the event and I can finally sit down and blog. It's been a crazy holiiday season and a really really good one at that.
Sunday I had to work at the wine store. I worked more hours than usual last week and by the time Noon on Christmas Eve came, I was done done done w/ the wine gig. I came home, watched some tv with my sweet husband and then we all got dressed and went to the Robinson Family reunion as always. This year was especially nice because my dad's sister came and my cousin Michelle. I hadn't seen Aunt Jacque or Michelle for about 4 years so it was good to finally catch up. How pathetic is it that we live a mile away and she'd never met Dan or Tess?
Christmas day was fun. The kids got us up at 5:30 and by 6:30 the whole living room looked like a war zone. Jake, Trev and Kendall had to go to their dad's house til 4 so Dan and I came home and had mimosas and naps til time to go get the kids. Then we went to mom's house for more chaos. Mom made a super ham dinner and we drank wine and played with kids and everything was merry and bright. fa la la la la la la. I think it was around 10pm when we all collapsed.
***
Today I had my interview for the computer engineer job w/ the county. I pray I did well. I feel like I did ok. They said they have 3 interviews next Wednesday but after that they'll quickly decide and let everyone know. If I don't get that job, I do have another interview lined up for Jan 8. I hope to not make it to that one.
***
Tonight mom and dad are coming over to put up the futon they bought for Trevor and the book case they bought for Dan and me. I made a big pot of zuppa toscana and a salad. It smells so good in here.
***
New years eve is going to rock rock rock. We have reservations to go to the Melting Pot with some friends. I'm so looking forward to going out. What a great way to bring in the new year...eating and drinking with good friends.

"Six Weird Things About You" Meme Rules: THE RULES:Each player of this game starts with the ‘6 weird things about you.' Don't forget to leave a comment that says ‘you are tagged' in their comments and tell them to read your blog."
Six Weird Things About Me:
1. I'm afraid of birds.
2. I've never been in a fight, which is not to say that many people haven't wanted to kick my ass, and vice versa.
3. I would watch Law and Order 24 hours a day if allowed.
4. I've never been sent to the principal's office, fired or arrested.
5. It's been over a year since my last car accident. Before that I'd been in at least one per year since 1998.

Cramming in the good times
I'm one of "those people" who love every second of the holiday season. I like to bake, shop (online, of course), entertain, sing Christmas songs, eat too much...the works. I'm determined not to be undone by the fact that we don't have any money and I'm never home. We're gonna have fun, dammitalltohell.
Friday we had some friends over for fondue and games and wine. It was a buhlast. I love sticking meat on skewers. It may take hours to eat but that's the point. After we ate we played 80's trivial persuit. I don't think we (the girls team) won, but I did take pride in the fact that I knew the few answers I knew because I WAS ALIVE THEN. See, there is an up side to being the only old person at a party.
Thankfully we didn't get tuh-rashed Friday because at around 11pm, Tessie started coughing. She has continued coughing ever since. I have to take her to the Dr. today. She's been a trooper through it all but I feel like we've passed the point where it'll just blow over.
Saturday Dan stayed home with the kids while I worked at the wine store and then the mean mommy club gathered again for our "hey it's been at least a week, we need to hang out and drink" time. We did too...drink. We had fondue again since it was already there. We also watched Clerks 2 and MOST OF US didn't get trashed hehe.
Sunday we were supposed to go get our tree at the tree farm as always, but with the baby coughing like mad we decided to just postpone. We'll probably look for one this week since the kids will be with their dad this coming weekend. I hate to break tradition, but sometimes kids screw everything up errr sometimes you need to put the health and safety of the babies before time honored traditions. It's the best time of year. God bless us everyone...and all that happy stuff.
