back.at.it

SOoo...yea...Byron and I are no longer going out. He took it pretty well and there are no hard feelings (at least from my side). Of course, it's easier to have no hard feelings when you're the one ending it.
In this case, I will never go away:
bizlimkit (11:39:46 PM): bitch, you need to get over me, cuz i done quit you.
r333th4x0r (11:40:41 PM): you can't QUIT me.
Tomorrow I'm off because I have to work the 4th. I was supposed to go to The Loft to see Crush N Run with some folks but I'm not sure if I will or not. I'm feeling the need to go back to anti-social mode for a while. Wednesday I'm taking the kids to the river and then Thursday if the weather holds out I'm going to take em to the beach for the day. I want our summer to be fantastic and so far it really has been. This weekend they go to their dad's house.
Stacy and her brood took off to Puerto Rico today so we're house/dog/fish sitting. Jake's been a big help with that and Kendall cleaned the house while I slept today. I need to get Trevor involved in something soon...something.
My parents are stranded in Honduras. I have nothing to add to this.

Saturday morning wakeups
I went to bed at 11 last night. Pretty early for bed on a Friday night but I'd eaten so much at dinnertime (3:30pm) that my body couldn't get past it and feel comfy.
I slept til 8:45 when I heard sweet lil Evan saying "krrryyyysssssyy? I had a bad dream and I need breffust". The girls were still asleep so we tiptoed to the kitchen and started making french toast. He wanted to help but last time he helped me we had the eggshellyest french toast ever so I just got him to hand me stuff. We pretended it was french toast surgery and he was ok with that.
Today Kendall and I are going to Dale City to hang w/ Tlee and the bebe. Big plans for Tarzhay shopping are in the works. YAY!!
Ps. I have a gmail account. That makes me uhh special. nyah.

Fireflies and little kids
Today the whole family slept in til almost 9am. It was the strangest feeling to wake up and cook breakfast and run a few errands and then have it be lunch time already. I felt like i missed out on something by sleeping in...I'm just not sure what.
Trev and Jake went to a friend's house so Kendall and I had girls night dinner and now Alexis and Evan are here to spend the night. They caught fireflies earlier and put them in a container. I let them go because I know what happens to the little critters when you cage 'em up. I don't need anymore stinkin bugs in this house anyway. Now they're playing with Play-doh and I'm watching Princess Bride.
I got my Shockwave Rider cd today. It's good stuff. I see Lisa's feet on the back of the cd case! :)
Last night I left my brother a voice mail saying "have you heard from our parents? If not, is it ok to loot their house?" He called me back saying that he had gotten an email from the missionary mailing list on Tuesday saying they'd dewormed like 2098383 kids so he unsubscribed because he doesn't wanna hear about that shit. We decided that we'd punish our parents by putting a "for sale" sign in their front yard for when they return. That'll teach em to not call home. Some people's parents. Sheesh.
Last night Trevor asked "what's a tube top?" I responded with something about Fredericksburg women, the fair and slut wings. He always accepts my explanations even if he doesn't understand.

Humpin' around
Tonight has been reletively slow. It's the last day of my 4 day work week and I'm exhausted. I haven't had to work a 4 day week in ages.
I futzed around with my blog some tonight. It's amazing that 12 year olds can have these super cool blogs and I can't even add links to mine without fucking it up. They're kind of staggered for some reason and I do not have the foggiest notion of why. Terry wants me to leave comments open so he can abuse me. I'm always up for some good abuse so I'm gonna leave it open for a bit and see. (there's ip banning anyway pwaha)
Tomorrow I'm going to get some rest then watch Stacy's kids for her so she can hang w/ a friend in DC. I definitely owe that woman a ton. She's been so good to me and my kids especially since school's been out. I don't know what I'll do when she's in Puerto Rico for the next 3 weeks.
Kendall's been having a rough time w/ gymnastics because she went from being the best kid in her class to the worst one and it's bruised her little baby ego. I really hate to see her suffer but I know for a fact that it's causing her to push herself harder.
My parents have not checked in with me like they said they would. I also haven't gotten a single email from that stupid missionary website that promises to keep me up-to-date on my parents safety etc. I am going to call the preacher's husband tomorrow I guess. It's just nerve racking that I can't keep track of my parents. Aren't they supposed to be worried about me and not vice versa??? When they get home they're getting a stern talkin' to.
Once tomorrow's done, the weekend is looking good. I get to hang out w/ Tree and Jaybird on Saturday. It's been way too long.
I have no desire to leave town (for once). Tree and I had discussed going to the river but things didn't work out and that's fine because my house needs attention. I need rest. Things are as they should be. This is the year for that I think.

Deja vu allover again.
It's looking like a pretty sure thing that I'll be laid off by next week. I won't be the only one, my whole office I guess. The signs were here but I was in denial til I heard from a pretty good source that I should expect it next Wednesday.
It's a very weird feeling. I am trying to focus on the good stuff that will come from this. There's good stuff I'm sure. Just give me time and I'll have a whole long list of good that comes from being shit-canned. I'll have some summer time off w/ the kids. I can take care of Jason for Tree. I can stop driving north of the Rappahannock. I can exercise, sleep normal hours, find a job that is closer to home, learn to live on $300 per week, pray the kids don't need medical attention, err wait...I'm steering negative. I'll revisit this later.
For right now though, I'm thinking that it's a real fuckin shame I'm not at home in bed because my energy is zapped from worry.
Steve's updated my resume for me and Kessie made it a pdf. She said pdf is the glamor shots of resumes and I believe it because my resume sparkles now. It looks like I know stuff. I think unemployment also pays for certification training too. I'll check into that when I'm "off". For right now, I'm just praying for a few month's severance.
***
Speaking of severance...at least I'm not a south korean with a severed head.
***
My folks have been gone almost a week. I got a call from Wade Hulon at church telling me that they arrived safely but I haven't heard a thing since. I am signed up to get a daily update about them but I haven't gotten a single thing. I am supposed to get a call from mom tomorrow. If I don't hear from her, I'm sending out the dogs. I really hate that I can't call mom everyday if I want.
I can't even tell mom that Charlie Bell's brain surgury went ok and that he's in recovery and the dr. patched the whole with chemo stuff and hopefully that'll help to keep the tumor from growing back again.
***
I've been looking for a place in Okracoke to take the kiddies for a long weekend. If I get laid off, we'll make that a week. I know it's insane to vacation whilst laid off but fuck it. Life's short. I'm going to be a cowgirl when I grow up.

fodders
So it was indeed Father's Day. I did that stuff last week since my daddy-o is in Honduras. James is getting his gift (money) a day late because I didn't really want to make a special trip over there and besides, it's money...it's not like he can't spend it just another day. The kids have been with him all weekend anyway. I figure that counts as some sort of gift. *ahem*.
It's an interesting dynamic ...being divorced and doing holidays. I've had a bit of time to get this thing down pat and it works well for us. Basically, if it's good for our kids, we try to do it.
I wonder if time has a different effect on fathers than it does on moms. I remember growing up that pretty much my mom was the same mom I still have to this day. She may have honed her guilt trip skillz but she's the same. Dad changed for the better. I feel like I'm pretty much the same mom I was when I first brought Jake home from the hospital. I'm sure I'm less tired and probably a million times more gushy but I can say without reserve that James is a much better dad now than he was back in the day. I'll quickly take the blame for him not being more involved with our kids when they were younger. Sometimes I just felt like I needed to be the one to take care of them....so I did and he let me. If I made him feel excluded I suck. I can't really remember my 20's very well but I can remember that I was pretty impossible to live with back then. I think that for all of our failures as young parents James and I made 3 pretty good babies. James gave Jake and Kendall their blue eyes. He and Kendall are both Libras and all 3 of the kids have his feet. Trevor is built like James and loves fishing. Jake loves the outdoors like him. Kendall is quite the athlete...she certainly didn't get that from me. My dad and I say "they're Courtneys" everytime the school nurse calls and says that one of the kids is sick. They are a reflection of us both. I just hope they pull the best from each of us and leave behind the bad junk.

Hatteras
I'm sure that one day I'll have some shitty stuff to report here but for the past several months things have been too good to ignore.
I remember when Byron and I first met back in March at the caps game we went to see with our coworkers and he asked if I wanted to go to Hatteras with him "sometime in June". I said "oh of course!!" I have to admit that I thought there was no way in hell I'd actually go to Hatteras in June. I'm terrible about bailing on plans and to make some 3 months in advance seemed just hilarious to me ;)
So we took off Tuesday morning after getting the kids all dropped off at Stacy's and packing up the car. I was supposed to sleep on the way down but I couldn't because I was too excited to sleep more than a 1/2 hour at a time. We got to Hatteras around 2pm. Once we checked into our room we went to the dive shop so Byron could get his plans made for Thursday and Friday. Then we went to the beach where we were basically alone. It's so different from Va Beach. We had some fantastic crabcakes at Rocco's which was to become our favorite place to eat down there.
Wednesday we went on the ferry to Okracoke Island. The ferry ride was so fun. I'd never been on one before and I got to watch some dolphins following another ferry. Okracoke was definitely one of my favorite parts of the trip. We went to the pirate museum and then got some coronas and headed for the beach. It was so beautiful there. We saw some caged wild ponies.(as we drove by...I didn't wanna see caged ponies and byron was more than happy to skip that part of the trip too). The beach was isolated and beautiful. We got entirely too much sun and came on back across on the ferry just in time for more crabcakes at Rocco's. It was nice the way the waitresses knew us in just 2 days. They know that I like water to drink and he likes unsweetened tea. It's always more fun when you feel at home. We watched a movie and zonked out.
Thursday was dive day for Byron so I dropped him off and went exploring. (read: shopping). I saw the Cape Hatteras lighthouse and didn't go up into it. Then I shopped my way back to our part of town. After that I got into my suit and went out to the pool w/ my book and soaked up more rays until time to get him from the boat. We decided to skip crabcakes that night but still hit Rocco's for pizza at lunch time. Dinner was at some other place that had good food but shitty service. We went back and I slept through the movie (club dread).
Friday was to be dive day part 2 for B but the waves were way too high so it got cancelled. I thought for sure he'd be miserable having to spend more time hanging with me when the main reason we went down there was so he could dive. Instead though, we went to the shipwreck museum, back to the beach and then to lunch at the buxton (butt) munch then eventually we got back to the beach again until a sting ray decided we'd had enough beach time. We had dinner at a really wonderful restaurant called the Austin Creek Grill and then walked around looking at rich people's boats in the harbor. Ice cream afterwards, some more shopping and then it was back to the room where I started to dread leaving.
Saturday I walked down to the dancing turtle where I got my coffee each day. We packed up some of our stuff and then tried to figure out what we should do. We really wanted to go back to the butt munch to eat lunch on the way out so we shopped some, ate breakfast, then went to the lighthouse. I had already seen it so I figured there was NO reason I needed to climb the damn thing. I had pictures of the OUTSIDE. Byron had other ideas though. So we hiked our fat overeating bodies up those scary stairs to the top. It was really worth the hike. I was afraid at first but the view is so pretty, soon I released the death grip on those rails and it was all well. We got to butt munch only to find it was closed so it was time to get going.
On the way home we stopped at brew thru because we hadn't ever. We went to lunch where our fighting about who would pay caused a scene and then we came on home. Ta da.

snak pak
On coast 2 coast there's a chick talking about bar codes being in our bodies and how we'll eventually all have scanner thingys inplanted and stores will know when we run out of beer. It's a bit confusing but I'm trying to absorb the splendor in that idea.
***
I have everything packed and in 2 hours I'll call and wake B. We're taking off once Stacy has the kids. I'm gonna sleep on the ride down thank goodness because I'm already tired. I was so excited today that I couldn't sleep. When I got up around 1:30, Jake and Kendall were washing my car. They're such good kids.

Whirlwind
Back at work doesn't seem so bad really. I have a very high risk of being laid off in the near future it seems but it's always seemed that way. I really must get back to getting certified in MCSA soon. It's either that or I need to find a new career path.
Tomorrow I have to get the finishing touches done for my trip to Hatteras. Stacy is going to take the kids to Kings Dominion a few times she said and James will take Kendallpops to her gymnastics classes.
I'm still feeling a bit guilty about leaving the kids for the week. I know they're taken care of and that they'll be just fine. B says we'll make sure to get em lots of gifts and they'll be very happy. He's so over the moon about this trip. He keeps asking me what time I'll be home so we can leave and if I'll have the car gassed up and if I need anything before we go and on and on and on. I think he's planned up every spare moment of our time with trips to uhhh a pirate museum and several different restaurants and god only knows what else. He says we're gonna get nekkid on the beach but I am quite sure that will not be happening. I'm not used to high energy vacations. Lord help me.
Speaking of the Lord. (and I was), I went to church again today. I wanted to see both parents before they take off for their 10 day mission to Honduras. I worry about them going to such a crappy place but they're all driven so what can ya do? We got dad a Shawn Hannity book which happens to be the same thing I went to get him last year but it was sold out. He seemed pleased. I suck at gifts for him but he was elated when he saw us in church this morning so I guess that counts for something.
I finished Da Vinci Code while on vacation and also read A Girl Named Zippy. Now I'm chugging through Child of my Heart. It's really sweet but I can tell I'll be done with it well before the week is over so I need to get a fat book to read on the beach. (while I'm not nekkid)
Guess that's it.

Massanutten
We just got back from our vacation. Last Sunday we went to church for Jake's confirmation. It was so emotional. I remember holding his tiny little body up to be christened and now he's taken the vows that I once took for him. He loved his confirmation group so much and I know that he'll remember this as one of the important rites of passage in his life.
After church we went to dinner w/ the folks and then we met up w/ Tree and Jason and left for the mountains.
Sunday night we hung out at the condo, unpacking and getting settled. I'd brought enough junk to get us through the first night so we didn't go anywhere except out on the deck to feed the deer and groundhogs some strawberries.
Monday morning I took my kids to the pool for a few hours. After lunch Tree, Trev and Kendall went to the grocery store to get enough food for the week and Jake went to the skateboard park which was very close to our condo. I was so happy he'd have something to keep him happy! After that Tree took the kids to the pool for a bit and I watched Jason. Mostly I watched him sleep...but he does it so sweetly. Monday night we had a nice meal and then hung out on the deck.
Tuesday was almost a carbon copy of Monday with the exception of the trip to the grocery store. Tree and I are creatures of habit...we discussed this as we sat out on the patio again while the kids played.
Wednesday I took my kids to see Harry Pottar and to the mall and out to lunch. When we came back Tree took them to the pool while I watched Jason. After dinner it was back out to the deck with the beautiful view of the mountains.
Thursday was a pool day again and it was also the day I kicked Jake and Kendall's butts at rummy. I rock.
Friday was terribly rainy and I really didn't want to sit around watching Reagan's funeral so I took the kids to see Shrek 2. Afterwards we went to the indoor pool and then we came back and ordered pizza and had a quiet last evening.
Today we packed up and headed home. It was such a wonderful week. Everyone got along great and I got to spend lots of time hanging with Tree and playing with Jason. The kids were all pleased that they got to do just what they wanted each day. I even have my laundry all done....A good vacation indeed.

It feels like the last day of school.
In just 3 hours and 20 minutes I'll be off work. I won't have to return til the night of June 13. Yeefuckin HAW. Sunday Jacob has his confirmation and baptism and then we'll go meet up with Tree and her bebe and we'll be off.
I have a very full rest-of-the-week as well. Tomorrow I'm going to rest up and maybe meet folks for pool. (maybe not). Thursday I'm gonna go sit w/ Opal. She's on bedrest and I promised to babysit her for the day. I look forward to it because she's an interesting gal. Friday I'm gonna definitely meet up at hardtimes and then after the kids take off w/ James for the weekend I'm going over to Bobby's house. His puter's broken and I need to fix it. Friday night is First Friday. I'm not sure if I'll go to that or not...but I'd like to. I want to stay busy til Sunday so I don't sit around anticipating vacation like a fiend.
I'm reading The Da VInci Code now. (still) I was slacking on it til this past weekend but now Alex is reading it to so I'll have someone to discuss it with. I want to finish it when he does. Grrr. I'll have time to read at Opal's.

Memorial weekend
Thursday I wandered the house in a daze. I worked a 4 day week and slept til noon after getting off at 6. I had to sign Kendall up for the next session of gymnastics and get the house cleaned since I wouldn't be around Friday much and then we'd leave for the weekend.
Friday I took the kids to school and Alex came over. We hung out a bit then went down to the races. That was really cool because we'd been hearing that it was going to rain all afternoon and we opted to go anyway. I am so glad we did because not only were the races fun but the weather was great too. We had a really great time. In the fall we're going to the Saturday race at MIR. That's the one we went to last year and it was awesome...night of fire!!
Saturday morning we got ready and went to the river. Once again the weather was awesome and we got lots of sun. Too much probably. Around 6 that night Nicole and her family came down. We had such a nice visit. Everyone just really enjoyed the weather and the river and the company.
Tonight is my first of two nights of work. Once I'm done, I'm on vacation til June 12. This summer is fantastic so far.
