Boy (am I) crazy.
Last week I did things I'd needed to do for a long time. First there was the financial stuff. I will soon be free from the stress of 13 years of bad financial decisions. It's a bigger relief than anyone can ever know. I still feel funny about it but sometimes in life you have to swallow your pride and just admit that you suck. I suck. There, I said it.
I cleaned out the sun room. It looks so nice now. I'm hoping to get either a futon or a daybed so that I can use that room as a guest room if I need to. The rest of the house got cleaned too...INCLUDING THE BASEMENT. It was soooo filthy that I came very close to defeat but my kids urged me to just get it done and we all worked as a team. Amazing. I just wish it'd stay that way. I have some folks who are willing to come haul shit to the dump for me. For that, I am so grateful.
Now we all know it wouldn't be fair to have the hard work without the payoff. I knew I needed to get my house cleaned because I'd offered to host Opal's shower. That came later though.
Wednesday and Thursday I had the most effed up sleep schedules. I would go to bed at 8 and 9pm then wake up at 1 and 2am unable to resume sleep. So what's a girl to do? That's right...go to wal*mart. I went shopping to try and stay awake or make myself tired. It didn't work very well and I ended up taking long naps that just messed me up more.
Friday was to be my movie date w/ Byron. He cancelled on me though. His reason was good and I'm ok with it, but I will think twice before getting excited about a date w/ him again. No worries. I had already bailed on girl night so I decided to drop back and punt.
Once the kids were gone I got ready for girl night. We met at Brocks, this trendy bar downtown. They had 80's music and expensive beer. There were 7 or 8 of us there. So we had a few beers and then drove over to the pool hall on Princess Ann street. This guy Stephen's band was playing bluegrass there and we'd said we'd stop by. Oh man that was fun! Not only were we the youngest people there, but we also had more teeth. The music was fantastic and they played my request for Salty Dog. Yehaw!! At this point, Danny called. I told him we were having girl night and he'd have to chop off his penis to attend. He said it was sounding like I could use a DD (wonder why?? did I sllllurr) and that he was on his way down. I told him where we'd be and he met us at the next bar which was The Loft. We went from blue grass to jazz in one fell swoop. When we got there we ran into Scott and his son. They swore they weren't trying to crash girl night. I was just glad they were there because it took some of the pressure off of me for allowing a boy to come to girl night.
The music there was good. I'm not much of a jazz fan but it was relaxing. Danny got there and we had a few drinks before he drove my drunk ass home. I was really glad to not be driving because the laws are a lot stricter now and it's just not worth the risk. I don't read much into Danny. He's nice, we get along great and there's no pressure. I just wonder how long we'll go out before we actually have a real conversation. If a man says something and there's no one around to hear it, is it still stupid? Yes, yes it is. (props: adrianne)
So Saturday I woke up when mom called to tell me that they were home from NC. They had the good sense to come home before the hurricane hit. Yay. I was very glad she called because sleeping was not what I had on my agenda for the day but since we were up til 2, 9am wasn't exactly sleeping in.
Danny took me to get my car before I could get a ticket and then headed back home.
I finished cleaning and preparing for the shower. I was just the host so I didn't really have to provide stuff which rocks since I'm too poor for that bidness. One at a time people bailed on the shower. I didn't care because they're not my friends, they're Opals. She still got tons of gifts because people dropped them off.
I had invited Alex and John to come down after the shower and hang out so around 5ish they showed up and around 6ish the shower people left.
We started drinking around 3ish. When everyone left and it was just Peggy, Alex, John and me and we decided to watch Kill Bill 2. I immediately fell asleep and woke up just as the movie was ending. I didn't even try to rationalize why I sleep during movies. I just do.
Peggy went home around 11 and John went around 1am. Alex and I always end up doing the stupidest things...like talking til 5:30am. He was going to a Dead concert Sunday so I'm sure he was exhausted for that. I slept til noon and then cleaned up the house again. I had to go pick up 2 hamsters that this chick had to give away. The kids are going to love them.
Now I'm back here at work again. I went to see Danny for my lunch hour. He lured me in with tales of fried catfish. Once again, I drove back to work wondering how long we'll go out. I wonder in a nonworried way though. It's a relief.
